The Idaho Pasture Pig (IPP) is a newer breed of pig thoughtfully developed by combining three heritage lines: Duroc, Old Berkshire, and Kunekune. The result is a docile, pasture-efficient, and hardy breed that thrives outdoors and fits perfectly into regenerative farm systems like ours.
Unlike traditional pigs that require heavy grain inputs and confinement, IPPs are true grazing pigs—designed by nature and careful breeding to grow efficiently on a grass-based diet. They're smaller in stature, easier to manage, and known for their gentle temperament and strong maternal instincts.
When raised with the proper balance of minerals and forage, Idaho Pasture Pigs do not root destructively like conventional hogs. Rooting usually signals a mineral deficiency, not bad behavior—so when they're fed right, they treat the land right.
Their ability to live outdoors year-round—from harsh winters to hot summers—makes them ideal for sustainable, low-input systems. On pasture, they grow steadily and can reach weight (230–250 lbs) in about 10 months on mostly grass, making them both economical and efficient for homesteaders and breeders alike.
